A Custom Stable Vision Project Success Story

Our goal as a company is to be more than a custom lens manufacturer – it’s to make a better world through vision. This story is very inspiring, and we’re really proud we were able to be a part of it.

HISTORY:

A 42-year-old female was referred to Dr. Feng by a corneal specialist for a contact lens fit.

She was diagnosed with keratoconus in both eyes as a teenager and subsequently underwent a Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) in 2015 for the left eye and in 2016 for the right eye.

She stated that her vision was functional with spectacles most of the time after the procedure, with a best corrected visual acuity of 20/70 OD and 20/40 OS.

However, even with a clear corneal graft, patients can have blurry vision and distortion due to a variable amount of irregular astigmatism.

🤍 HOW DID THE CUSTOM STABLE LENS IMPROVE THE PATIENT’S LIFE?

Our patient's quality of life improved drastically with scleral lenses. She had decent visual acuity after the transplant, but she was a police officer and needed sharper vision, especially at night. Her best corrected visual acuity was 20/20 in both eyes with a well-fitting scleral lens. She was delighted and in tears when she realized these lenses' visual benefits. "I can see! My life has been changed forever!" she says.

PRACTICE NAME:
The Eye Institute at Salus University

In patients that have undergone corneal transplants for corneal diseases, like keratoconus, a corneal graft could have variable amounts of irregular astigmatism, leading to blurry vision even with a successful outcome.

This is where scleral lenses are life-changing for many high-functioning patients as a means of visual rehabilitation.
